Hyderabad: Hyderabad Traffic Police detected a fake number plate case and traced a stolen two-wheeler during an investigation into misuse of a vehicle registration number.
The case surfaced after D. Satyanarayana from Chinthal in Ranga Reddy district complained about the illegal use of his vehicle registration number AP28CJ8911.
The registration number belonged to a Passion Pro motorcycle. During the investigation, police identified Lal Mohammed, 48, from Mallepally as the person using the fake registration plate.
Further verification revealed that the vehicle carried a stolen registration identity. Officials found that the two-wheeler originally belonged to Eshwar Prasad Chourasia from Ramanthapur.
Fake number plate case leads police to stolen vehicle
Police said the actual registration number of the vehicle was AP29AM8979. The vehicle was reported stolen in Crime No. 473/2023 at Musheerabad Police Station on December 4, 2023.
During questioning, the accused told investigators that he purchased the vehicle from an unidentified person through an online platform in 2024.
Traffic police later handed over the recovered vehicle to Musheerabad Police Station for further investigation.
Meanwhile, Hyderabad Traffic Police warned that use of fake or tampered number plates is a serious offence under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act.
Officials said the department uses CCTV and ANPR camera systems to detect such violations.
Police advised citizens to verify registration certificates, owner identity, engine numbers, and chassis numbers before purchasing vehicles.
