Hyderabad: A city court sentenced a 44-year-old man to 60 days imprisonment for harassing elderly parents in the Narayanguda area of Hyderabad.
The V Special Judicial Magistrate Court at Nampally delivered the judgment on Friday.
Police identified the accused as G. Srinivas, a private employee residing within the limits of Narayanguda Police Station.
According to police, the accused allegedly subjected his aged parents to continuous harassment and ill-treatment.
Following a complaint from the elderly couple, police registered a case against him.
The case was booked under Section 70B of the City Police Act and Section 115(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Harassing elderly parents led to imprisonment
Sub-Inspector J. Srikanth Reddy of Narayanguda Police Station conducted the investigation.
During the inquiry, the officer gathered evidence against the accused and later produced him before the court.
After hearing the case, Judge M. Bhasker found the accused guilty.
Subsequently, the court sentenced him to two months imprisonment.
In addition, the judge imposed a fine of Rs.50 on the accused.
Harassing elderly parents will invite strict action
Police said the judgment sent a strong message against abuse of senior citizens.
Officials reiterated their commitment to protecting elderly citizens from harassment and neglect.
Furthermore, police warned that strict legal action would be taken against individuals who ill-treated aged parents.
They also urged senior citizens facing abuse to approach police authorities without hesitation.
