ACB bribe trap catches Adilabad SI taking Rs.40,000

Hyderabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday caught Sub-Inspector of Police G. Ramesh of Bazarhathnoor Police Station in Adilabad district. He was accepting a bribe of Rs.40,000 from a complainant for extending an official favour, the ACB said.

According to the ACB, the SI first demanded Rs.50,000 and later reduced the amount to Rs.40,000. He allegedly wanted the money to keep the complainant out of a case under Section 194 of the BNS. Police registered the case in connection with the suspected suicide of an unmarried woman. The SI also allegedly demanded money for returning the complainant’s mobile phone, which he had retained.

ACB lays bribe trap near petrol bunk

The deceased woman had reportedly made her last phone call to the complainant before her death. The SI allegedly used this fact to threaten the complainant with implication in the case unless he paid the bribe.

During the ACB bribe trap operation, the SI told the complainant to place the money beneath centering boxes. The boxes were near an under-construction petrol bunk on the outskirts of a village. The complainant followed the instructions, and the ACB then trapped the officer.

The ACB arrested the accused officer. It will produce him before the Special Judge for SPE and ACB Cases, Karimnagar, for judicial remand. The case is under investigation. Authorities have withheld the complainant’s identity for security reasons.
