Hyderabad: Dubbaka MLA Kotha Prabhakar Reddy boycotted the Praja Palana celebrations and criticised the Congress government over farmers’ issues in Telangana. He alleged that the government was organising events while farmers struggled to sell paddy at procurement centres.
The MLA raised the issue during a public representatives’ meeting held in Dubbaka. However, officials allegedly stopped his microphone when he spoke about farmers’ problems. In protest, he walked out of the meeting and staged a demonstration against the government.
Kotha Prabhakar Reddy said farmers were waiting near procurement centres and warehouses to sell their grain. He described the celebrations as insensitive at a time when cultivators were facing difficulties.
He questioned the Congress government over its achievements during the last two-and-a-half years in power. The MLA also demanded immediate measures to speed up paddy procurement operations.
Praja Palana celebrations draw criticism over farmers’ distress
Kotha Prabhakar Reddy said former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao had developed irrigation infrastructure through projects such as Mallannasagar. He alleged that the present government neglected canal maintenance and affected water supply to farmers.
Further, the MLA questioned the government over its criticism of the Kaleshwaram project. He asked officials to explain the source of irrigation water currently reaching canals.
He also accused the district administration of failing to manage government departments effectively. According to him, several sectors, including rural development and irrigation, had weakened under the Congress government.
The MLA said the previous BRS government implemented schemes such as 24-hour free power supply, Rythu Bandhu, Rythu Bima, farmer platforms and warehouse facilities. He claimed farmers no longer had confidence in the present administration.
Kotha Prabhakar Reddy alleged that traditional occupations in villages had suffered due to the suspension of fish and sheep distribution programmes. He also said villages were facing drinking water problems because ponds and tanks remained filled with silt.
The MLA accused the government of not releasing funds to gram panchayats. He said people wanted real development instead of progress reports and celebrations.
Finally, Kotha Prabhakar Reddy demanded the appointment of special officers to accelerate paddy procurement. He also urged the Congress government to fulfil its election promises instead of organising public celebrations.
