Dana Kishore directs officials to speed up NAREGA works

Hyderabad: Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Special Chief Secretary Dana Kishore directed officials to speed up NAREGA works and immediately ground all sanctioned projects across Telangana.

He asked officials to accelerate both wage component and material component works under the employment guarantee scheme. He also said the current scheme would continue till June 30, while the new VBG Ramji scheme would begin from July 1.

Dana Kishore, along with SERP CEO Divya, held a video conference with district collectors and rural development officials from the Dr B.R. Ambedkar Secretariat. During the meeting, they reviewed progress of NAREGA works and the Cheyutha pension survey.

At present, around 15 lakh labourers participate in the programme every day. However, Dana Kishore directed officials to increase the number to 20 lakh immediately.

NAREGA works to focus on village projects

Officials must mobilise workers a day in advance and ensure that works remain within village habitation limits. In view of the summer heat, authorities must begin works at 5.30 am and complete major activities before 10.30 am.

Further, Dana Kishore asked MPDOs to focus completely on NAREGA works for the next 40 days and speed up implementation. He also told officials to take up farm pond construction works in assigned lands to support farmers.

District collectors must personally inspect employment guarantee works every morning and monitor progress regularly.

Meanwhile, the government plans to launch construction of nearly 8,000 women’s self-help group buildings under the 99-day special action plan. Dana Kishore asked officials to begin a large number of construction works within the next 40 days.

Officials can include Anganwadi centres, gram panchayat buildings, school compound walls and women’s association buildings under the scheme. He also instructed authorities to regularly clean CC drains in villages and improve sanitation before the monsoon season.

SERP CEO Divya reviewed recovery of bank linkage loans given to women’s groups. She asked districts to work towards reducing NPAs to zero and focus on recovery of Streenidhi loans.

She also directed district collectors to conduct monthly reviews on sanction and recovery of bank loans, Streenidhi loans and NPA control measures.
