Governor seeks PSU support for Salar Jung Museum modernisation

Hyderabad: Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla urged Central and State Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) to support Salar Jung Museum modernisation and expansion as the institution prepares to celebrate its Platinum Jubilee year.

The Governor, who also serves as Chairman of the Salar Jung Museum, made the appeal during a meeting with PSU representatives at Raj Bhavan on Thursday.

The meeting reviewed preparations for the week-long Platinum Jubilee celebrations scheduled from June 14 to 21.

Special Chief Secretary to the Governor M. Dana Kishore and Joint Secretary Shashikiran Achary attended the meeting.

Salar Jung Museum modernisation plans take shape

Addressing the gathering, Shiv Pratap Shukla said the Platinum Jubilee celebrations would mark the birth anniversary of Nawab Mir Yousuf Ali Khan, Salar Jung III.

He said the programme would include special exhibitions, cultural events, educational initiatives, publications and public outreach activities.

Furthermore, the Governor revealed that the Museum was preparing a comprehensive five-year development plan.

According to him, the initiative aims to transform the institution into a modern museum that meets international standards.

He also expressed confidence that the Central government would support the project.

Therefore, he appealed to PSUs to contribute through their Corporate Social Responsibility programmes.

Salar Jung Museum modernisation linked to heritage development

Speaking at the meeting, M. Dana Kishore said the state government was implementing measures to develop and beautify the Musi riverfront.

He added that authorities were preparing plans to develop the Telangana High Court, Salar Jung Museum and Osmania General Hospital precincts as a heritage corridor.

In this context, he requested participating organisations to support the Museum’s development initiatives.

Responding to the appeal, PSU representatives assured the Governor that they would explore opportunities to partner in the Museum’s modernisation and expansion efforts.

Salar Jung Museum modernisation roadmap unveiled

Museum officials presented a detailed roadmap outlining future development projects.

They informed the gathering that authorities proposed works worth ₹25 crore to ₹35 crore over the next five years.

The projects include gallery upgrades, storage improvements and modern conservation infrastructure.

In addition, the Museum plans to enhance educational programmes, visitor services, conservation laboratories and public amenities.

Officials also proposed a dedicated Telangana Heritage Wing at an estimated cost of ₹85 crore.

The proposed facility will showcase Telangana’s rich historical and cultural legacy.
