Hyderabad: Rajiv Gandhi International Airport Police busted an inter-state bike theft racket and arrested a habitual motorcycle thief while recovering four stolen motorcycles worth about ₹8 lakh.
Police identified the accused as Vishwakarma Mohan Kumar alias Undekode Mohan, 32, a resident of Mahabubnagar district.
Investigators linked him to vehicle theft cases registered in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
The recovery included three Royal Enfield motorcycles and one Pulsar bike.
Inter-state bike theft racket targeted service centres
According to police, the accused targeted automobile showrooms and service centres during lunch hours.
He allegedly posed as a customer and surveyed the premises before identifying potential targets.
Investigators said Mohan Kumar took advantage of reduced staff presence and fled with serviced motorcycles parked outside.
Police traced the recovered vehicles to cases registered in Raichur, Kurnool, Adoni and the RGIA Police Station limits.
Furthermore, officials said the accused followed a consistent pattern while committing vehicle thefts across multiple states.
Inter-state bike theft racket cracked through surveillance
Following a recent motorcycle theft within airport police limits, RGIA Police formed a special team to investigate the case.
The team used technical surveillance and other investigative methods to trace the accused.
As a result, officers apprehended Mohan Kumar and recovered the stolen motorcycles.
SHO B. Sanjeev and Detective Inspector Pavan Kumar supervised the operation with support from the crime team.
Police produced the accused before a court, and the court remanded him to judicial custody.
Officials also appreciated the investigating team for quickly solving several inter-state vehicle theft cases.
