Hyderabad: CCS police arrested inter-state thief Nagi Reddy, who had been absconding after escaping from police custody, during a late-night operation in Hyderabad on Wednesday. During the operation, Nagi Reddy was finally arrested, bringing relief to law enforcement.
Police said Nagi Reddy, also known as Mallepoola Nagi Reddy, had escaped from the Kalwakurthy Police Station on November 13. He was in custody in a theft case when police brought him to the station for questioning.
During interrogation, Nagi Reddy asked to use the washroom. He walked out of the station bathroom and fled, triggering a manhunt. His escape exposed serious lapses in security at the police station, leading to Nagi Reddy’s arrest drama later in the night.
CCS arrests absconding thief after custody escape
Following the escape, senior officers took disciplinary action against the staff on duty. Authorities suspended a head constable for negligence. They also issued a charge memo to the station sub-inspector. Officials attached a home guard involved in the incident to the SP office.
Police identified Nagi Reddy as a native of Veerapur village in Kothapalli mandal of Nandyal district. Investigators said he faced more than 100 theft cases across multiple states.
After tracking his movements, CCS teams traced Nagi Reddy to Hyderabad and took him into custody without incident. Nagi Reddy’s arrest marks a significant breakthrough in their ongoing investigation.
