Hyderabad: Mahankali police arrested a mobile snatching gang within 24 hours of a phone theft near Patny X Roads in Secunderabad.
The case relates to Crime No. 88/2026 registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The complaint was filed by Palle Prashanth Kumar, a private employee from Bengaluru.
He arrived in Secunderabad on April 29 for passport verification work in Nizamabad. While walking towards JBS Bus Station at around 6 am, three unidentified persons on a black Activa snatched his Samsung mobile phone and fled.
Mobile snatching gang tracked through CCTV
Police teams immediately launched a search operation after receiving the complaint. They alerted patrol units and examined CCTV footage from the area.
Within 24 hours, officers traced and arrested three accused. Based on their confession, police arrested another आरोपी later.
The accused include Nadiga Rakesh, 19, and Mokati Abhinesh, 18, along with two juveniles. All belong to Neredmet in Medchal-Malkajgiri district.
Mobile snatching gang involved in multiple thefts
Police said the group targeted pedestrians using mobile phones while walking. Rakesh acted as the main आरोपी and planned the crimes.
The gang first stole a two-wheeler in Uppal on April 27. Later, they used the vehicle to commit the mobile snatching near Patny X Roads.
Investigators found that the accused also committed vehicle thefts in Gandhi Nagar and Meerpet areas. They were involved in eight previous theft cases across Hyderabad and Malkajgiri commissionerates.
Police recovered three stolen two-wheelers and two mobile phones from the accused. The seized items included Activa vehicles linked to multiple police station limits.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of senior officers of Secunderabad Zone. A special police team tracked and apprehended the accused.
