Kishan Reddy alleges Congress blocked women reservation bill

Hyderabad: Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy on Thursday alleged that the Congress party blocked the implementation of the Women Reservation Bill.

Addressing the media, he said the Reservation Bill was linked to the delimitation process. He stated that the exercise was necessary to ensure fair political representation.

Kishan Reddy said India’s population had grown from 550 million in 1971 to over 1.4 billion. Therefore, he argued that delimitation could increase Lok Sabha seats and improve representation.

Women Reservation Bill linked to delimitation debate

The Union Minister said the Women Reservation Bill would create more opportunities for women, Dalits, and tribal communities. He added that delimitation could also address disparities in constituency sizes.

He dismissed concerns that the process would harm southern states. Instead, he said the plan aimed to ensure balanced representation under a “Team India” approach.

Kishan Reddy accused the Congress of opposing key reforms. He alleged that the party prioritised political interests over public welfare.

He also called on people to attend the “Jan Aakrosh Sabha” to be addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Hyderabad.
