GRP arrests theft accused, recovers stolen ornaments at Secunderabad

Hyderabad: Secunderabad Railway Police arrested a suspect in a Secunderabad railway theft case and recovered stolen silver ornaments at the railway station.

Police identified the accused as Mohammed Muzammil, 25, a worker from Hyderabad. Another accused, Varthyavath Ammu alias Tharun, remained absconding.

According to police, the duo targeted passengers at Secunderabad Railway Station. They allegedly committed thefts in trains to earn money.

In one case, the duo boarded the Godavari Express on March 28. They entered an S-3 coach and identified a passenger’s unattended bag.

Police said the accused stole a handbag containing gold, silver ornaments, cash, and other items. They later split the stolen property.

The accused also spent part of the stolen cash on personal expenses. The case formed part of the ongoing Secunderabad railway theft investigation.

Police recover property in Secunderabad railway theft

Police apprehended the accused on April 16 at Secunderabad Railway Station. They detained him under suspicious circumstances in the waiting hall.

During questioning, the accused confessed to the offence. Police recovered silver ornaments weighing about 10 grams, valued at ₹30,000.

Officials registered a case and sent the accused to judicial remand. Meanwhile, efforts continued to trace the absconding accused.

Senior officers supervised the operation and appreciated the police and RPF teams. They said coordinated efforts helped solve the case.
