Hyderabad: Bandi Bhagirath, the accused in a POCSO case that sparked widespread attention across the Telugu states, was sent to judicial remand after the completion of police custody. Police produced him before the Nampally court on Wednesday after the custody period granted by the court came to an end.
Following the hearing, the court remanded Bandi Bhagirath to judicial custody. Police later shifted him to Cherlapally Central Prison under tight security. The case relates to allegations of sexual assault on a minor girl.
Earlier, investigators secured custody of the accused to gather evidence and question him about various aspects of the case. During the custody period, police reportedly collected several crucial details and material evidence connected to the investigation.
Bandi Bhagirath questioned over digital evidence during custody
On the first day of custody, police shifted the accused from Cherlapally prison to Medchal Government Hospital for medical examinations. Investigators later took him to Aranya Farmhouse in Moinabad and conducted a scene reconstruction to verify the sequence of events.
On the second day, police questioned him at a service apartment in Gachibowli. Investigators confronted Bandi Bhagirath with digital evidence linked to conversations allegedly held with the victim through Instagram, WhatsApp and Snapchat. Police also recorded his statement during the questioning.
Officials had earlier recorded statements from the victim, her mother and friends of the accused who had visited the farmhouse. Investigators also examined CCTV footage, call data records and call recordings provided by the victim’s mother. Police reportedly questioned the accused on these aspects and recorded his responses as part of the ongoing investigation.
