Hyderabad: The Salar Jung Museum launched its Platinum Jubilee celebrations on Saturday with Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla inaugurating the commemorative events and participating in the birth anniversary celebrations of Salar Jung III.
The Governor described the Salar Jung Museum as a unique symbol of the confluence of world cultures and a priceless repository of India’s heritage.
He said the museum reflects Hyderabad’s long-standing tradition of cultural harmony and openness.
Moreover, the Governor highlighted several internationally renowned collections housed in the museum.
These include the iconic Veiled Rebecca and rare artefacts from Persia, Egypt, China, Japan and Europe.
Salar Jung Museum plans modernisation and expansion
Shiv Pratap Shukla called for greater digitisation, research initiatives and academic collaborations at the museum.
He said such efforts would help transform the institution into a vibrant centre for learning and knowledge creation.
Meanwhile, the Governor suggested holding a State Cabinet meeting at the Salar Jung Museum.
He said the proposal would help showcase the museum’s historical and cultural significance to a wider audience.
As part of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations, the Governor unveiled a five-year roadmap for the museum’s modernisation and expansion.
Additionally, he inaugurated the Museum Souvenir Shop and opened a special Handicrafts and Handloom Exhibition.
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, meanwhile, assured full government support for the museum’s development.
Furthermore, Minister Ponnam Prabhakar described the institution as one of the finest museums in the world.
MLA Mir Zulfeqar Ali, Governor’s Special Chief Secretary M. Dana Kishore, former Salar Jung Museum Board member Nawab Ehteram Ali Khan, Prof. Jayadheer Tirumala Rao and Museum Director Priyanka Mary Francis attended the programme.
Additionally, members of the museum board and several eminent personalities from the fields of art and culture were present.
