Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said the police system in Telangana must adapt to changing crime patterns and modern security challenges.
He stated that the government must strengthen all systems and adopt modern technology to improve policing standards. The Chief Minister gave directions during a meeting at MCR HRD Institute with senior police, fire services and HYDRAA officials.
Revanth Reddy asked officials to prepare long-term plans keeping in mind the requirements of the next 10 years. Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao, State Security Adviser B. Shivdhar Reddy and DGP C.V. Anand attended the meeting along with senior police officers.
The Chief Minister said crime patterns were changing rapidly and directed the Chief Secretary and DGP to study rising cybercrime cases and submit a report. He stressed the need to focus specially on cybercrime control.
Further, Revanth Reddy said the police department should conduct special recruitment for cybercrime divisions. He also proposed a dedicated course for police personnel at Young India Skills University.
The Chief Minister asked officials to strengthen drone policing, increase CCTV cameras and improve night patrolling. He directed police to make effective use of the Command Control Centre and modern technology in policing operations.
Police system to focus on technology and surveillance
Revanth Reddy also stressed the need to increase forensic centres and data centres based on emerging requirements. He suggested that officers from SI level to non-cadre IPS rank should work in other departments for two years after promotions.
He directed officials to establish special de-addiction centres for drug victims and improve coordination among departments and senior officers.
Meanwhile, Revanth Reddy asked the vigilance department to increase use of technology and focus on organised crime through data analysis. He also suggested studying the proposal to grant additional powers to vigilance authorities if required.
The Chief Minister directed the fire services department to focus on prevention of fire accidents instead of responding only after incidents occur. He asked officials to submit a detailed report before June 15 in coordination with municipal authorities and HYDRAA.
Further, he directed departments to improve coordination in nala maintenance and manhole management. He also instructed police and GHMC officials to act strictly against illegal flex banners in the city.
Revanth Reddy stressed the need to crack down on food adulteration and called for a special law to prevent such offences. He warned officials against negligence in maintaining law and order and asked them to strengthen village policing and patrolling systems.
The Chief Minister also said the government would not tolerate corruption in the department and stressed that postings should be based on merit. He added that the government was holding talks with the Centre to increase the number of IPS officers in Telangana.
