Farmers stage road blockade in Jagtial over paddy procurement delays

Hyderabad: Paddy procurement delays triggered a major protest in Jagtial district on Monday as farmers staged a road blockade demanding immediate purchase of paddy stocks.

The protest took place at Pudur crossroads in Kodimyala mandal, where farmers sat on the road and raised slogans against the government.

Farmers alleged that procurement authorities were imposing a seven-kilogram deduction for every paddy bag during procurement operations.

BRS state general secretary Jeevan Reddy and former Choppadandi MLA Sunke Ravi Shankar joined the protest in support of farmers.

Paddy procurement delays trigger traffic disruption

The protest caused a massive traffic jam on the Karimnagar–Jagtial highway.

Vehicles remained stranded for several kilometres as protesters continued the road blockade.

Farmers demanded that the government immediately begin procurement operations and stop the alleged deductions during paddy purchases.

Police and local officials later reached the spot to monitor the situation.
