Hyderabad: Animal Husbandry Minister Vakiti Srihari on Wednesday laid the foundation for a new ₹4 crore Makthal irrigation building on the outskirts of the town. District Collector Priyanka joined the Minister in performing the bhoomi puja for the proposed Irrigation Department building.
Srihari said the government planned the new facility to provide better infrastructure for departmental offices and staff. The building would support officials in carrying out their duties with improved facilities.
He directed officials to complete the construction at the earliest while adhering to prescribed quality standards. The Makthal irrigation building would also have modern facilities for the department. Srihari holds the portfolios of Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development, Fisheries, Sports and Youth Services.
Makthal irrigation building planned amid wider infrastructure push
The Minister said the Irrigation Department owned nearly 16 acres along both sides of the Sangambanda Left Canal. The land stretched from the reservoir towards the Mahabubnagar road. He said proposals had been submitted for constructing warehouses and other offices on the available Irrigation Department land.
Srihari said large warehouses were required to store paddy procured by the government. Therefore, he asked Collector Priyanka to take steps to allot the required land for warehouse construction. He also sought the allocation of municipal land in Makthal town for constructing a Mahila Samakhya building.
The Minister said the government was giving special priority to the development of the Makthal Assembly constituency. He cited irrigation, roads and electricity among the key infrastructure sectors requiring development.
Srihari said he was working to secure government funds for infrastructure projects and improve public services in the constituency. The Makthal irrigation building formed part of the infrastructure development measures taken up in the area. Makthal Municipal Chairperson Vakiti Manasa attended the foundation programme.
Irrigation Department Executive Engineer Gopalachari and DEEs Suresh, Mahesh, Shivudu, Venkata Ramana and Shekhar also participated. Assistant engineers, ward councillors, party leaders and workers were among those present at the programme.
The Minister asked officials to ensure that the new building combined modern facilities with required construction standards. He also stressed faster execution so the Irrigation Department could use the facility without unnecessary delay.
