Hyderabad: K. T. Rama Rao demanded the immediate withdrawal of GO 7 and warned of statewide protests against the Telangana government led by A. Revanth Reddy.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Minister on Sunday, he said the order would harm nearly 14 lakh students from BC, SC, ST, and minority communities. He described the move as a serious setback to the fee reimbursement system that supports economically weaker sections in pursuing higher education.
Rama Rao stated that the decision could deny access to education for lakhs of students and create uncertainty about their future. He also called on the Chief Minister to apologise publicly to students and reconsider the policy.
He pointed to financial strain in the education sector, stating that fee reimbursement dues of around ₹10,000 crore remained unpaid over the past two-and-a-half years. According to him, this had affected more than 2,500 colleges. As a result, institutions were struggling to operate, while students faced delays in receiving certificates and continuing their studies.
Withdrawal of GO 7 linked to fee reimbursement crisis
Rama Rao criticised the government for relying on committees and partial fund releases instead of clearing pending dues. He said such steps had failed to address the core issue and had prolonged uncertainty for institutions and students.
KTR also raised concerns about the condition of residential educational institutions. He alleged that authorities had not ensured basic facilities, pointing to administrative lapses in managing student welfare.
Further, Rama Rao warned that his party would launch protests if the government did not act and said the BRS would not remain silent if policies continued to affect students. He added that the government would be responsible if students were forced to protest over the issue.
He reiterated the demand for the withdrawal of GO 7 and the immediate release of pending dues, stating that both steps were necessary to protect the future of students across Telangana.
