Heavy rain triggers massive traffic snarls across Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Heavy rain lashed several parts of the city on Tuesday evening, triggering major Hyderabad traffic snarls and causing severe disruptions to commuters across key corridors.

The downpour continued late into the night, while weather officials warned that rain could persist in several parts of the city until 8 am on Wednesday.

Authorities also advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel.

Hyderabad traffic snarls hit IT corridor and key junctions

The rain severely affected traffic movement in Hyderabad’s IT corridor.

A massive traffic jam stretched for nearly five kilometres near the IKEA Junction.

As a result, commuters spent up to two hours covering routes that usually take around 20 minutes.

Meanwhile, motorists struggled to reach their destinations as congestion worsened across major roads.

At the same time, roads near the Kondapur–Kothaguda Junction went under water.

Several cars and auto-rickshaws got stranded in waterlogged stretches.

The sudden change in weather brought heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning.

Further, areas such as Jubilee Hills, Gachibowli, Shaikpet, Hitec City and Madhapur received intense rainfall.

Consequently, flooded roads disrupted normal traffic movement across the city.

Many employees and other commuters opted for Metro services to avoid road congestion.

As a result, passenger footfall increased sharply at Metro stations.

Videos and photographs of traffic congestion, waterlogging and crowded Metro stations circulated widely on social media.

Rain alert issued for Telangana districts

Meanwhile, the Hyderabad Meteorological Centre forecast heavy rainfall in several districts on Wednesday.

The department issued alerts for Rangareddy, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy and Mahabubnagar districts.

In addition, officials predicted moderate rainfall in Rangareddy, Nalgonda, Warangal, Hyderabad, Medak, Adilabad and Karimnagar districts.

The department said it would continue to monitor weather conditions and issue updates as required.
