Ponguleti launches maize procurement centre, highlights farmer welfare

Hyderabad: Telangana Revenue, Housing and Information Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy launched a maize procurement centre at Nelakondapalli and said farmer welfare remains the government’s top priority.

He inaugurated the facility under the PACS initiative in the presence of officials and public representatives. According to him, the maize procurement centre will help farmers secure better returns for their produce.

He said the government is offering an additional ₹500 per quintal for fine varieties of paddy over the Minimum Support Price. This, he added, encourages crop diversification and improves farmer income.

The minister stated that the government waived farm loans worth ₹21,000 crore within six months. He said the measure benefited nearly 25 lakh farmers, with waivers up to ₹2 lakh each.

Meanwhile, he said authorities are crediting payments for procured crops directly into farmers’ bank accounts without delay. In addition, he noted that financial assistance increased from ₹10,000 under Rythu Bandhu to ₹12,000 under Rythu Bharosa.

He also said the government plans to expand storage infrastructure. According to him, warehouse capacity will increase by 200%, and officials will set up government-run cold storage facilities.

Further, he said the government continues to implement welfare schemes despite financial constraints. These include free bus travel for women, 200 units of free electricity, and issuance of ration cards.

Finally, Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy said the government remains committed to supporting farmers through concrete measures and timely implementation of promises.
