Telangana pays ₹3,301 crore under Rythu Bima to 66,038 farmer families

Hyderabad: Telangana has disbursed Rythu Bima payments worth ₹3,301.90 crore to 66,038 farmer families since the present government assumed office, Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao said.

The Minister stated that the government has implemented the farmer insurance scheme with responsibility and ensured financial support to families after the death of eligible farmers.

He also clarified that reports claiming the government had discontinued the scheme were completely false. According to him, the government remains committed to farmer welfare and has not stopped any scheme benefiting farmers.

Rythu Bima payments support thousands of families

Tummala said the government deposited ₹3,301.90 crore into the accounts of nominees belonging to 66,038 farmer families across the state.

From December 2023 until the end of that year, the government provided ₹1,004.50 crore to 20,090 families under the scheme. Subsequently, it extended insurance assistance of ₹1,293.05 crore to 25,861 families during 2024.

Furthermore, the Minister said the government restored several farmer welfare initiatives that the previous administration had discontinued. These included agricultural mechanisation programmes, soil health testing and subsidised seed distribution schemes.

He alleged that the previous government failed to release the state’s share for certain centrally sponsored schemes, thereby denying benefits to farmers.

Rythu Bima payments backed by full LIC premium

The Minister said 42.16 lakh farmers enrolled under the scheme for 2025-26. To ensure uninterrupted coverage, the government paid the entire annual premium of ₹1,359.56 crore to the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC).

As a result, authorities extended insurance assistance worth ₹1,004.35 crore to 20,087 farmer families during the current period. Tummala said the scheme continues to provide crucial financial support to bereaved families. Moreover, he urged critics to stop spreading misinformation about farmer welfare programmes.

The Minister reiterated that the government would continue implementing Rythu Bima payments effectively and prioritise the welfare of Telangana’s farming community.
