Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy launched the Education Week celebrations at LB Stadium on Monday as part of the Praja Palana Pragathi Pranalika programme.
The celebrations will continue till May 17. The programme includes activities related to school development, teachers’ meetings and student talent promotion.
Addressing the gathering, Revanth Reddy said the education sector was neglected during the united Andhra Pradesh period. He said neglecting education would push the state backwards.
The Chief Minister praised students for their role in the Telangana movement. He said the separate state became possible because of students’ sacrifices and struggles.
Education Week celebrations focus on school reforms
Revanth Reddy said the government was strengthening universities and educational institutions in recognition of students’ sacrifices. He added that education alone could bring social transformation.
The Chief Minister said he retained the Education portfolio to personally focus on reforms in the sector.
He said the government issued a DSC notification for more than 11,000 teacher posts immediately after coming to power and completed the recruitment process within 60 days.
Revanth Reddy also said the government provided promotions to nearly 22,000 teachers who had remained without promotions for almost two decades.
The Chief Minister described teacher transfers as a difficult process and said the government completed transfers without major disputes. He added that the Centre’s NITI Aayog appreciated Telangana’s education model.
Revanth Reddy reiterated that the government planned to operate schools from nursery to Class 12. He also said the government was studying foreign education models.
The Chief Minister announced plans to identify 500 best teachers and send them abroad to study international education systems.
He said the government increased cosmetic charges by 200 percent and assured that education funding would gradually increase in the coming years.
