Education workshop urges support for government schools

Hyderabad: Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar urged Sarpanches and local representatives to strengthen government schools and increase student enrolment during an Education Workshop in Husnabad.

The Education workshop took place at Vaishya Bhavan in Husnabad under the 99-day action plan of Praja Palana Pragathi Pranalika and the ongoing Education Week celebrations.

Ponnam Prabhakar attended the programme as the chief guest. While addressing the gathering, he said officials organised the meeting for Sarpanches and Councillors from Husnabad, Akkannapet, Koheda and Bejjanki mandals.

The Minister said the State Government was giving top priority to education. He also referred to the Education Week celebrations inaugurated recently at LB Stadium in Hyderabad.

He observed that people were seeking government jobs and welfare schemes. However, interest in government education and healthcare institutions was declining. Therefore, he urged Sarpanches to take an active role in village transformation and school enrolment drives.

The Minister advised local representatives to discourage private school buses from entering villages. In addition, he asked them to conduct door-to-door campaigns under the “Badi Bata” initiative so every child could join school.

Education workshop focuses on enrolment drive

Ponnam Prabhakar said officials recently conducted meetings across seven mandals. They also formed five-member committees to improve infrastructure and increase enrolment in government schools.

He stressed the need to prevent school dropouts and create awareness among parents about government education standards. Moreover, he asked Sarpanches from Bejjanki to visit the Urban Forest Park and Ellamma Cheruvu in Husnabad to observe development works.

Highlighting local leadership, the Minister said Sarpanches carried major responsibility in village development. Describing himself as a student leader, he reiterated his commitment to education and agriculture.

The Minister recalled the development works undertaken in Bejjanki during his tenure as Member of Parliament. He said authorities brought a Satavahana University Engineering College to Husnabad. He added that educational institutions shape future generations.

He further said authorities established 29 Model Schools and Kasturba Schools across 31 mandals during his tenure as MP.

Education workshop highlights infrastructure projects

Ponnam Prabhakar announced that authorities were constructing an Integrated Residential School at Thangalapalli near Koheda at a cost of Rs. 200 crore.

He also said workers were building a 250-bed hospital. In addition, authorities would establish a branch of Basara Triple IT at Elkathurthi.

Reiterating that education remained the government’s first priority, the Minister urged Sarpanches to attend Parents-Teachers Meetings regularly. He also asked them to review school atmosphere, encourage sports activities and monitor infrastructure facilities.

The Minister said government colleges were providing quality education. However, he noted that many parents were spending lakhs of rupees on private institutions such as Narayana and Sri Chaitanya.

He appealed to local representatives to strengthen government schools and encourage admissions. He said the move would greatly benefit poor students.

During the programme, the Minister felicitated meritorious students from Government Junior Colleges, Social Welfare Schools, Model Schools, Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Residential Schools and Akkannapet Tribal Schools in the Husnabad constituency.

Municipal Chairperson Dandi Lakshmi, Vice Chairperson Chittari Padma, DEO Srinivas Reddy, RDO Rammurthy, MEOs, Sarpanches from four mandals and government school headmasters attended the programme.
