Hyderabad: Bahadurpura MLA Mohammed Mubeen and Karwan MLA Kausar Mohiuddin demanded higher centering workers compensation during a meeting with Labour Minister Gaddam Vivek Venkatswamy on Monday.
They submitted a memorandum seeking increased compensation for workers who die in construction accidents.
The MLAs submitted the representation following instructions from AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi. They requested the Telangana government to increase compensation from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 20 lakh.
Representatives of the Greater Hyderabad Centering Contractors Association earlier met Asaduddin Owaisi at Darussalam. They explained the difficulties faced by workers in the construction sector.
The workers said centering work involved high risk. They said labourers worked on multi-storey buildings during summer, rainy season and winter without proper recognition in society.
Centering workers compensation demand submitted to minister
Association members said centering workers contributed to construction of major structures such as the Secretariat, Parliament and Assembly buildings.
They also said they had requested revision of centering rates in 2016. At that time, the rate stood at Rs 46 per square foot.
According to the workers, rising prices and inflation made it necessary to revise the rate to Rs 51 per square foot.
The AIMIM legislators urged the Labour Minister to take necessary action in favour of workers and address their long-pending demands.
