Telangana government appoints new Women’s Commission chairperson and members

Hyderabad: The Telangana government appointed a new chairperson and members to the state Women’s Commission under the Telangana Women’s Commission Act, 1998.

The government issued GO Rt No. 637 dated May 11, 2026, announcing the appointments. Gadwal Vijay Laxmi was appointed as chairperson of the commission.

The government also appointed Kasoju Sankaramma, Chityala Swetha, Shashikala Yadava Reddy, Sada Laxmi, N Radha Bai and Ujma Ashai Shakira as members.

Officials said the chairperson and members would serve a tenure of two years.

State Women’s Commission gets new appointments

Nerella Sharada served as the chairperson of the commission until now. Earlier, Sunitha Laxma Reddy held the position.

The commission works for the protection of women’s rights and promotion of gender equality in the state.

It also examines women-related issues, investigates complaints and provides legal guidance. In addition, the body undertakes programmes related to women’s empowerment and welfare.
