Hyderabad women’s safety rally calls for collective action

Hyderabad: A women’s safety rally in Hyderabad on Sunday called for collective action to protect women’s rights, dignity and freedom. Organised by the SHE POWER Foundation to mark the International Day of the Girl Child, the rally also promoted empowerment and road safety.

Ministers Jupally Krishna Rao and Ponnam Prabhakar flagged off the rally at Jalavihar on PV Marg, also known as Necklace Road. Participants then proceeded towards Tank Bund, with women superbikers, scooter riders, cyclists and women police personnel joining the event.

Addressing the gathering, Jupally Krishna Rao said women’s safety and freedom required a collective social commitment. He stressed the importance of equal opportunities for women to pursue their aspirations, access education and excel in every field.

The Minister said women alone should not bear the responsibility for their safety. Instead, he called on the government, police, families, educational institutions, workplaces and society to work together to create a safe and supportive environment.

Jupally Krishna Rao also urged women to prioritise their health alongside family responsibilities. He advised them to dedicate at least one hour daily to physical exercise, adding that fitness and healthy habits could improve confidence and overall well-being.

Meanwhile, Ponnam Prabhakar said the Telangana government had given priority to women’s safety and empowerment. He added that the government was taking steps to strengthen women’s economic and social empowerment.

The Minister also stressed that women should be able to travel safely across the State without fear. He called for coordinated efforts involving government authorities, police, families and the public to build a secure environment for women.

Both ministers emphasised that improving women’s safety required shared responsibility across society. The rally used public participation to highlight the importance of women’s dignity, equal opportunities, personal well-being and safer roads.
