Hyderabad: District Collector Rizwan Basha Shaik said empowering women strengthens families, communities and society while inaugurating the Women’s Mobility Center at Gattu mandal in Jogulamba Gadwal district.
The facility was established at the Women’s Federation Building under the aegis of SERP with support from the MOVO voluntary organisation. Gadwal MLA Bandla Krishna Mohan Reddy attended the programme.
The Collector said the government is committed to ensuring women excel in every sphere of life. He urged women to utilise every opportunity available and emerge as leaders across different sectors.
Women’s Mobility Center promotes skills and self-reliance
The Collector described the initiative as the first of its kind in Telangana. He said the Women’s Federation procured four electric scooters, one auto-rickshaw and one bicycle to provide driving training for adolescent girls and women.
He noted that mobility creates opportunities for freedom, confidence and economic independence. Therefore, he encouraged families to support women in learning driving skills and exploring new livelihood options.
During the programme, a woman trainee drove an auto-rickshaw while the District Collector and the MLA travelled as passengers. The gesture highlighted confidence in women’s abilities and encouraged more women to pursue skill development.
Rizwan Basha Shaik said every woman who acquires a skill gains the ability to shape her future. He added that federation members can also rent out the vehicles to generate sustainable income.
Women’s Mobility Center supports inclusive livelihoods
The Collector praised women’s self-help groups for their leadership in paddy procurement and other community initiatives. Furthermore, he said Gattu mandal has been selected under the Telangana Inclusive Livelihood Programme (TILP) because it is one of the district’s most backward regions.
Under the programme, officials identified 1,033 families across 14 villages for focused support. The administration will connect eligible families with government welfare schemes, subsidised bank loans and livelihood opportunities.
The Collector said the government’s objective is to help families become economically self-reliant rather than merely extending financial assistance. He added that the Women’s Mobility Center reflects the government’s vision of making women active partners in social and economic development across Telangana.
