Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday said the Telangana government had introduced a Government employee insurance scheme to provide financial security to employees and their families. He said protecting employees was the responsibility of the government as their employer.
The Chief Minister spoke at a programme held at Ravindra Bharathi in Hyderabad, where the government launched the insurance initiative for state employees. Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, ministers, senior officials, bank representatives and employee union leaders attended the event.
During the programme, the State government signed memoranda of understanding with 16 banks to implement the insurance scheme for government employees.
Government employee insurance strengthens welfare
Addressing employees, Revanth Reddy said the government had earlier introduced a similar insurance scheme for Singareni workers without requiring any contribution from them. He said the new initiative extended the same commitment to government employees.
The Chief Minister said the government wanted employees and their families to feel secure during difficult times. He added that financial assistance after an employee’s death could help families maintain their dignity and stability.
Government employee insurance part of broader reforms
Revanth Reddy said the previous government had left Telangana with a debt burden of ₹8.11 lakh crore. He also alleged that salary payments to government employees were often delayed. According to him, the present government had restored salary payments on the first day of every month.
The Chief Minister said the government had increased retirement benefits despite financial challenges. He added that it had already released ₹1,000 crore as the first instalment after announcing a plan to pay ₹6,000 crore towards pending retirement benefits in 100 days.
Furthermore, he said the government remained committed to implementing a new Pay Revision Commission (PRC). He urged employees to contribute to increasing government revenue by preventing tax evasion and improving public service delivery.
Revanth Reddy also highlighted welfare measures introduced by the government, including ration cards, free electricity up to 200 units for eligible families, subsidised LPG cylinders, quality education, the breakfast scheme and financial support for women’s self-help groups. He said the government had filled 70,000 vacancies after assuming office.
The Chief Minister also reiterated the government’s commitment to major infrastructure projects, including the Musi rejuvenation project, Metro Rail expansion and the Regional Ring Road. He urged employees to work together to help achieve the goal of making Telangana a one-trillion-dollar economy by 2034.
