Telangana invites global aerospace firms, plans three new airports

Hyderabad: Telangana on Tuesday unveiled an ambitious Telangana aerospace expansion plan, inviting global aerospace and defence manufacturers to establish production facilities in the state while announcing three new airport projects at Warangal, Adilabad and Kothagudem.

Addressing the inaugural session of Aeromart Hyderabad 2026, Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister and former Indian Air Force fighter pilot Capt. N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said the state had emerged as one of the world’s fastest-growing aerospace manufacturing destinations. He invited international aerospace companies to make Hyderabad their manufacturing base.

The minister said work on the proposed Warangal airport would begin soon, with the foundation stone expected to be laid next month. He also announced that Adilabad would get a dual-use civil and military airfield. In addition, he said the government was in discussions with the Centre for approval of the proposed airport at Kothagudem.

Telangana aerospace expansion backed by global investments

Uttam Kumar Reddy said Telangana had attracted investments from aerospace companies in the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Italy, Japan, Israel and Canada. He added that products manufactured in Telangana now formed part of globally recognised aviation programmes.

According to the minister, Tata Sikorsky Aerospace manufactures cabins for the US Presidential helicopter in Telangana. Boeing produces Apache helicopter fuselages in the state, while Lockheed Martin manufactures F-16 fighter aircraft wings. Safran, GE Aerospace and Honeywell also manufacture advanced aero-engine components and MRO systems in Telangana.

He highlighted recent investments by Spain’s ITP Aero and Canada’s FTG Aerospace. He said the two projects reflected Hyderabad’s growing reputation as a global aerospace hub.

Telangana aerospace expansion strengthens industrial ecosystem

The minister said Telangana had developed aerospace Special Economic Zones, precision engineering parks and plug-and-play industrial infrastructure. More than 1,500 specialised MSMEs currently supply components to the aerospace, defence and space sectors, he added.

He also highlighted Hyderabad’s ecosystem of DRDO laboratories, defence public sector undertakings, research institutions and private companies. Further, he said initiatives such as Young India Skills University and Advanced Technology Centres were creating a skilled workforce for future aerospace industries.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said Telangana’s aerospace and defence sector had recorded nearly 30 per cent annual growth in recent years. He added that exports from the sector grew by 103 per cent during the previous year, surpassing pharmaceutical exports for the first time.

Telangana aerospace expansion offers low-cost aviation infrastructure

Drawing on his experience as a former fighter pilot, Uttam Kumar Reddy said the proposed airports would create opportunities for Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) operations and aviation-related industries. He added that operating costs at the new facilities would remain significantly lower than those at major metropolitan airports.

The minister urged global Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to build partnerships with Telangana-based industries through Aeromart Hyderabad 2026. He also encouraged local MSMEs to compete on quality and integrate into global aerospace supply chains.

Reaffirming the state’s investor-friendly approach, Uttam Kumar Reddy assured domestic and international companies of full government support. He said elected representatives and officials would remain accessible to help investors establish and expand their businesses in Telangana.

The minister thanked Advanced Business Events, the Industries Department, TGIC, sponsors and participating organisations for hosting Aeromart Hyderabad 2026. He also appreciated delegates from more than 25 countries for attending the event.
