Airport development push accelerates in Telangana

Hyderabad: The Telangana government accelerated its airport development push, with Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy directing officials to fast-track land acquisition, approvals, and infrastructure planning for new airports.

Reviewing progress at a Secretariat meeting, the minister said the initiative aligned with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s broader vision for rapid and balanced state development. He added that the government had drawn up a clear action plan for proposed airports in Warangal, Adilabad, and Bhadradri Kothagudem.

Officials from the Airports Authority’s southern region and the state aviation department attended the meeting. The minister instructed them to coordinate closely with the Centre to ensure the projects are executed early.

He said the government had already acquired about 953 acres for the Warangal airport and handed the land over to the Centre. He added that the foundation stone for the project would be laid soon, marking a key step in the airport development push.

Land and approvals drive airport development forward

In Adilabad, the minister said the airport would be developed jointly by the Defence Department, Civil Aviation authorities, and the state government. He directed officials to prepare a master plan without delay and begin steps for further land acquisition. He noted that the project would improve air connectivity in north Telangana once operational.

For Bhadradri Kothagudem, the minister said the earlier proposed site had been deemed unsuitable by the Union Civil Aviation Ministry. He instructed officials to carry out a detailed feasibility study and submit alternative proposals at the earliest.

The minister reiterated that the airport development push formed a key part of the government’s infrastructure strategy aimed at boosting connectivity, investment, and regional growth across Telangana.
