Ministers Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and Konda Surekha, Warangal MP Kadiyam Kavya, Wardhannapet MLA Nagaraju, and MLC Banda Prakash attended the ceremony.
Government Advisor Vem Narender Reddy and Aviation Director Bharat Reddy also participated. Senior officials from the Roads and Buildings and Transport departments joined the event.
Mamnoor Airport project details and construction roadmap
Addressing the gathering, Ram Mohan Naidu said the Centre expanded regional air connectivity across the country. Therefore, he said the Ministry of Civil Aviation will expedite Mamnoor Airport’s operationalisation.
He praised the Telangana government for completing land acquisition transparently and on time. Consequently, the Airports Authority of India will bear the entire project cost.
The Mamnoor Airport project includes a 2,500-metre runway and a terminal building. It also covers an air traffic control tower, a fire station, and allied infrastructure.
Officials said construction will begin shortly. As a result, the airport is expected to be completed within two to two-and-a-half years.
Naidu said the terminal design will reflect Kakatiya’s architectural and cultural identity. Moreover, he said the airport will boost employment, tourism, trade, and urban development in northern Telangana.
Speaking next, Bhatti Vikramarka recalled that the Nizam’s administration built Mamnoor Airport in 1930. At that time, it stood as South India’s largest airport.
He said reviving Mamnoor Airport reflected Telangana’s commitment to balanced regional development. At the same time, it aligned Warangal with modern infrastructure needs.
Konda Surekha said completing land acquisition and statutory approvals marked a proud moment for the state. She added that the project gained priority after the present Chief Minister assumed office.
She said the airport will support textile parks, industries, cargo movement, and tourism. Further, it will strengthen corridors linking Warangal with Karimnagar, Khammam, and Hyderabad.
Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said Telangana has only one operational airport despite rapid growth. Hence, he thanked the Centre for prioritising the Warangal project.
He urged early foundation laying and swift construction. He also said the State had already submitted proposals for Kothagudem and Adilabad airports.
