Hyderabad: Hyderabad In-charge Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said HYDRAA monsoon preparedness measures are fully in place to protect lives and property during the upcoming rainy season.
The minister attended a meeting of the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) Monsoon Response Teams at Jalavihar on Saturday.
HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath, Additional Director Papaiah and other senior officials participated in the review.
Ponnam Prabhakar said authorities had provided specialised training to HYDRAA personnel to handle monsoon-related emergencies.
He added that the agency would play a key role in disaster response and public safety during the rainy season.
Meanwhile, HYDRAA has equipped its teams with advanced machinery, heavy-duty dewatering pumps and emergency response vehicles.
The government has also implemented a series of precautionary measures to reduce monsoon-related risks across Hyderabad.
HYDRAA monsoon preparedness includes 51 DRF teams
Further, the minister said HYDRAA has prioritised urban flood management, disaster response and protection of lakes, nalas and government lands.
Officials have placed 913 waterlogging points under continuous monitoring across the city.
Additionally, HYDRAA has kept 51 Disaster Response Force teams ready for deployment.
The agency has also positioned 300 Monsoon Response Teams and 889 Static Teams at key locations.
To ensure quick action during emergencies, officials have deployed 20 bike-based Quick Response Units.
Moreover, HYDRAA has stationed 371 dewatering pumps in flood-prone areas.
Teams are also monitoring 60 flyovers, 38 underpasses and 705 lakes across Hyderabad.
Ponnam Prabhakar said desilting, encroachment removal and drainage restoration works have improved stormwater flow in several areas.
The works covered Ameerpet, Maitrivanam, Madhura Nagar and the Paradise-Patny-Rasoolpura nala corridor.
As a result, authorities expect a significant reduction in flood risk in these locations.
The minister said HYDRAA, GHMC, Traffic Police, Fire Services and the Meteorological Department are working round the clock in coordination.
He also urged residents, institutions and colonies to establish rainwater harvesting systems to address waterlogging issues permanently.
Ponnam Prabhakar praised HYDRAA’s performance and called on officials to continue working with dedication throughout the monsoon season.
