HYDRAA begins additional flood pipeline works in Miyapur

Hyderabad: HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath directed officials to expedite flood mitigation works in Miyapur after inspecting waterlogging-prone areas affected by heavy rainfall earlier this week. He ordered the construction of an additional pipeline and instructed authorities to complete the work at the earliest to prevent future flooding.

The inspection followed heavy rainfall on Monday night, which led to severe water stagnation near BK Enclave on the Miyapur–Bachupally main road opposite the Tata showroom. Several vehicles were submerged after floodwater accumulated on the stretch. HYDRAA teams deployed pumps and continued dewatering operations until early morning to clear the inundated area.

During the field visit, officials assessed the reasons behind the flooding and found that the existing pipeline system beneath the road lacked sufficient capacity to carry excess rainwater. Based on the findings, the Commissioner directed engineers to construct an additional parallel pipeline to improve drainage.

Miyapur flood management focuses on drainage upgrades

Work on the new pipeline began on Tuesday night under the supervision of HMDA engineers and HYDRAA officials. Authorities set a target of completing the installation by Wednesday morning. The new one-metre-wide pipeline is being laid beneath the main road and linked to the existing drainage network.

Officials said the additional line would channel floodwater from the Tata showroom side towards Pedda Kudi Cheruvu, reducing the risk of waterlogging during heavy rains. They added that cooperation from local residents helped remove obstacles and allowed construction work to proceed smoothly.

The HYDRAA Commissioner also inspected the culvert near the HDFC junction, where one vent was found completely blocked with silt. Officials noted that nearly 12 centimetres of rainfall was recorded on Monday night, contributing to flooding in the area. During the inspection, it was observed that a slab constructed by a nearby mall management had restricted access for desilting operations in the main stormwater drain.

Ranganath instructed officials to remove the obstruction wherever necessary, clear accumulated silt and restore the free flow of floodwater towards Gurnath Cheruvu. HMDA, CMC and HYDRAA engineering teams were directed to implement immediate corrective measures to strengthen drainage infrastructure before further monsoon rainfall.
