Hyderabad: Officials have intensified monitoring of Himayat Sagar after rising inflows from continuous rainfall in the reservoir’s catchment areas pushed up water levels from early Tuesday morning.
The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) said authorities were closely tracking the situation and could release floodwater from the reservoir if conditions required such action. Officials added that any decision would depend on the inflow pattern and the overall status of the reservoir.
The Water Board urged all concerned government departments, disaster management agencies and local bodies to remain on alert. It also advised residents living in downstream areas of the reservoir to stay vigilant and follow official instructions issued by authorities.
Officials said information regarding gate operations, water discharge or any emergency measures would be communicated promptly through official announcements and media briefings to ensure public awareness and safety.
Authorities review Himayat Sagar inflows amid rainfall
HMWSSB Managing Director Ashok Reddy said officials were continuously monitoring the situation at the twin reservoirs and reviewing developments on a regular basis.
He directed all concerned departments to maintain close coordination and remain prepared for any eventuality. He also advised residents in low-lying and downstream areas to keep track of official updates and take precautionary measures if necessary.
With rainfall continuing in the catchment region, authorities are expected to maintain round-the-clock surveillance of reservoir conditions and take decisions based on evolving weather and inflow patterns.
