Hyderabad: Nine enforcement teams inspected 19 cafes and snack points across Hyderabad’s core urban region during a special food safety drive. The Hyderabad cafe inspections uncovered alleged violations including expired food articles, poor sanitation and pest infestations.
The teams were from the Enforcement Wing of the Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE). They comprised Food Safety Officers and police personnel.
Among the establishments inspected were Clock Tower Tea Cafe and Blue Sea Cafe in Secunderabad. Officials also inspected Mirosa Cafe in Himayathnagar and Imroz Cafe in Ameerpet.
Cafe Persia in Nampally and Persis in SR Nagar were also among the outlets covered during the special drive.
Hyderabad cafe inspections find hygiene issues
Officials reported open dustbins and littered waste in food preparation areas at some establishments. Food handlers were also allegedly found working without appropriate headgear.
The Hyderabad cafe inspections further detected expired food articles and improper food storage and handling practices. Officials also reported violations relating to FSS labelling and display requirements.
Moreover, housefly and cockroach infestations were reported at some of the inspected premises. Several establishments allegedly failed to maintain required documentation. These included FoSTaC training certificates and health records of food handlers.
Officials also found deficiencies concerning pest control records at some outlets. The special drive focused on hygiene, safe food handling and compliance with applicable food safety requirements.
