Hyderabad: Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy reviewed the progress of the Rajiv Gandhi Lift Irrigation Scheme during a visit to Suryapet district on Saturday.
The Rs 394-crore project aims to lift Krishna River water to irrigation-deficit areas.
It seeks to provide reliable irrigation to nearly 14,000 acres under the Mukteshwarapuram Major and Ganapuram Major ayacuts.
Meanwhile, the scheme will also improve water availability in tanks and farmlands across Kodad, Huzurnagar, Chilukuru and nearby mandals.
Officials told the minister that workers had completed fabrication of 16 kilometres of the 22-kilometre pressure main.
They also informed him that teams had already laid six kilometres of the pipeline.
Further, civil works are progressing steadily at various locations.
Officials expect the remaining works to accelerate in the coming weeks.

The project will benefit villages including Kandibanda, Ramapur, Huzurnagar, Dondapadu, Ganapuram, Uchhipudi, Erravaram, Ramalakshmipuram, PK Banda, Kogarrayi and Palanagaram.
Addressing farmers, Uttam Kumar Reddy reiterated the government’s commitment to supplying water to every tail-end ayacut.
He said irrigation development must reach the most disadvantaged farmers.
He also said no village should lose access to river water because of its location at the end of the canal network.
Additionally, the minister described the Nagarjuna Sagar Project as the region’s irrigation lifeline.
However, he said supplementary projects are equally important for balanced water distribution.
He added that the Rajiv Gandhi Lift Irrigation Scheme would help bridge existing irrigation gaps in the district.
