Hyderabad: Telangana DGP C.V. Anand on Tuesday said Telangana Special Police Battalions would undergo further modernisation and technological strengthening to enhance the state’s security and emergency response capabilities. He described the battalions as a key force in maintaining law and order, election security, disaster response, VIP protection and special operations.
During a high-level review meeting at the Special Battalions headquarters in Jubilee Hills, the DGP reviewed administrative, technical and welfare-related issues. He directed officials to speed up recruitment, strengthen technological capabilities, expand the vehicle fleet and improve housing, healthcare and welfare facilities for personnel.
Telangana Special Police to strengthen operational readiness
Recalling the role of the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh Special Police in anti-Naxal operations, Anand said the force had served as the backbone of the civil police during critical missions. Drawing on his experience as Superintendent of Police in Nizamabad and Warangal, he praised the battalions for their courage and contribution to eliminating the Naxal threat. He noted that police stations frequently came under attack during that period.
The DGP said Telangana had established 13 Special Police Battalions after the formation of the state. He commended their role in election security, festival management, VIP protection and disaster relief operations.
Further, Anand appreciated the battalions for their rescue efforts during the recent floods in Nizamabad and Kamareddy districts. He said the personnel evacuated thousands of residents and helped protect lives and property.
