Hyderabad: Kaleshwaram CBI probe efforts moved forward after the Telangana government decided to seek a central investigation into alleged irregularities in the irrigation project.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy directed officials to send a formal communication to the Central Bureau of Investigation requesting an immediate inquiry. He also asked ministers to pursue an appointment with the CBI Director and submit a memorandum seeking a probe.
The decision followed a high-level review meeting held by the Chief Minister along with Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy. The meeting assessed the legal position and outlined the next course of action in the Kaleshwaram matter.
Senior Supreme Court advocate Abhishek Singhvi briefed the leadership on the status of the case and advised on the legal framework required to proceed.
Kaleshwaram CBI probe gets legal clarity after review meeting
Singhvi informed the government that no cases related to the project were pending before any court. Therefore, he said, there were no legal barriers to prevent the CBI from taking up an investigation.
He also clarified that the High Court had not raised objections to the constitution of the Justice PC Ghosh Commission or to the report submitted by it. The court, he said, did not make adverse remarks against the commission’s findings.
The meeting was attended by senior officials and advisors. Minister Sridhar Babu and Singhvi joined through video conference. Rajya Sabha MP Vem Narendra Reddy, Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao, Principal Secretary Seshadri, Secretary Manik Raj, Irrigation ENC Sridhar, and Advisor Aditya Nath Das participated.
The government proceeded to initiate formal steps to approach the central agency following the consultations and internal assessment.
