DGP Anand calls for collective action on road safety and drug eradication

Hyderabad: Telangana Director General of Police C.V. Anand called for Collective action on road safety and drug eradication during his visit to Adilabad district on Wednesday.

The DGP said village-level participation was essential to promote safer roads and build a drug-free society.

During the visit, Anand took part in programmes related to public safety, road safety awareness, drug control, technology-driven policing and community engagement.

He planted saplings at the District Police Guest House and inaugurated a children’s park and a traffic training institute.

The DGP also visited an addiction counselling centre that supports individuals affected by ganja and other narcotic substances.

Collective action on road safety backed by technology initiatives

Anand inaugurated the integrated CCTV monitoring system at the Adilabad Command and Control Center.

Officials said Adilabad held strategic importance because of its connectivity with Nanded, Nirmal, Komaram Bheem Asifabad and the Maharashtra border.

They stated that the surveillance network would strengthen traffic management, accident prevention, crime detection and public safety.

The DGP praised district police for expanding CCTV coverage and suggested developing Adilabad into a safe district on the lines of Hyderabad and Cyberabad.

He also directed officials to extend technology-based policing to smaller towns and rural areas.

District Superintendent of Police Akhil Mahajan said authorities had installed 300 new CCTV cameras in Adilabad town.

As a result, the total number of cameras in the town reached 600.

He added that more than 1,200 CCTV cameras had been installed across villages in the district.

According to him, integration with the Command and Control Center would improve response times during emergencies.

Collective action on road safety and drug control stressed

During a review meeting at the District Armed Reserve Headquarters, Anand assessed measures related to cybercrime, financial fraud, narcotics control, patrolling and accident prevention.

He instructed officials to strengthen proactive policing and public safety measures.

Furthermore, he proposed establishing Anti-Narcotics and Safety Clubs in schools and colleges.

The initiative aims to educate students and youth about the dangers of drug abuse.

Anand also directed police officers to remain accessible to the public and dedicate time each day to address grievances.

He emphasised the need to strengthen police-public relations and encouraged wider use of police dogs in criminal investigations.

Later, the DGP attended the Praja Palana Pragathi Pranalika programme in Tosha village of Gudihatnoor Mandal.

He interacted with village elders, elected representatives and young people during a Gram Sabha.

Stating that road safety was a shared responsibility, Anand suggested forming road safety committees in every village.

He also instructed officials to help eligible citizens obtain driving licences through coordination between police and transport authorities.

The DGP distributed prizes to winners of Rangavalli competitions and volleyball tournaments organised to promote road safety awareness.

Highlighting emerging challenges, Anand said Telangana had successfully overcome the threat of Left-Wing Extremism.

However, he noted that cybercrime, drug abuse and road accidents had emerged as major public safety concerns.

He said more than 7,800 people lost their lives in road accidents across Telangana last year.

According to Anand, many of those deaths could have been prevented through helmet use and strict compliance with traffic rules.

“Speed might offer a thrill, but losing control can cost lives. No one should neglect traffic rules,” he said.

The DGP reiterated that Collective action on road safety and community participation remained vital for ensuring safer roads and eliminating drug abuse.
