Telangana forms SIT to probe POCSO case against Bandi Sanjay’s son

Hyderabad: The Telangana government constituted a Special Investigation Team for an SIT probe into the POCSO case involving Union Minister Bandi Sanjay’s son, Bandi Bhageerath.

Police appointed Kukatpally DCP Rithiraj to head the investigation team following directions from Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy.

DGP C.V. Anand briefed the Chief Minister on the case during a review meeting on Monday. Revanth Reddy instructed the police department to immediately begin investigation into the case registered at Pet Basheerabad police station.

The Chief Minister questioned the delay in action after the complaint was lodged on May 8. DGP Anand informed him that police personnel remained occupied with security arrangements for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Hyderabad visit.

SIT probe ordered after CM review meeting

Following the review, Revanth Reddy directed the DGP to form specialised teams for a detailed investigation. Police subsequently formed the SIT under IPS officer Rithiraj.

According to the complaint, a 17-year-old girl and her parents alleged that Bandi Bhageerath behaved inappropriately with her during a New Year’s Eve party at a farmhouse in Moinabad. The complaint also mentioned similar behaviour on other occasions.

Meanwhile, police in Karimnagar registered a separate case against the victim and her parents following a complaint filed by Bandi Bhageerath.

He alleged that the victim’s family demanded Rs 5 crore and attempted to blackmail him.
