Hyderabad: Police arrested a nursing officer after a PG medical student alleged sexual harassment at Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Medical College in Adilabad. The incident, which reportedly took place inside the operation theatre, triggered outrage among junior doctors and medical students.
According to police, the accused allegedly behaved inappropriately with the woman medical student while she was alone during duty hours in the operation theatre of the hospital. The victim immediately informed senior officials and later lodged a complaint with the police.
Based on the complaint, Adilabad police registered a case and launched an inquiry on the hospital premises. Officers collected preliminary evidence before arresting the accused nursing officer and sending him to judicial remand.
Sources said the incident came to light after several days. Reports indicated that the hospital administration allegedly kept the matter confidential to avoid damage to the institution’s reputation.
Students raise concerns over Adilabad RIMS harassment
Junior doctors and medical students at RIMS expressed anger over the incident and demanded strict legal action against the accused. They stated that women doctors and students were facing insecurity even within hospital premises.
Students also urged the administration to strengthen security measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. They demanded better protection systems for women staff and medical students working in sensitive hospital areas.
The incident once again raised concerns about safety standards in medical colleges across the state. Students said authorities must ensure strict monitoring and immediate action in harassment complaints inside educational and healthcare institutions.
