Hyderabad: Cyberabad Traffic Police conducted a special weekend enforcement drive against drunken driving and booked 300 offenders across the commissionerate limits. Police said all the offenders would be produced before the court for further legal action.
According to the police, two-wheeler riders accounted for the highest number of violations with 253 cases. Authorities also registered nine cases against three-wheeler drivers and 38 cases against four-wheeler drivers. No heavy vehicle driver was booked during the drive.
Officials classified the offenders based on their Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels. As many as 232 offenders recorded BAC levels between 36 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml. Another 35 offenders registered BAC levels between 201 mg/100 ml and 300 mg/100 ml. Police found 33 offenders with BAC levels ranging from 301 mg/100 ml to 550 mg/100 ml.
Court disposes Cyberabad drunk driving cases
Cyberabad Police warned that driving under the influence of alcohol remained a serious offence and could lead to strict punishment in fatal accident cases. Officials stated that if an intoxicated driver caused a death, police would register a case under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, related to culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The section carries a punishment of up to 10 years in prison along with a fine.
Police also released details of court disposals from the last week between 11.05.2026 and 16.05.2026. A total of 96 drunk driving cases were disposed of in courts during the period. Among them, seven persons received fine and jail punishment, while two persons were ordered to pay a fine and perform social service. Another 87 persons received fines only.
