Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Tuesday said the government had spent nearly ₹1.75 lakh crore on Telangana farmer welfare over the past 30 months through investment support, irrigation, free power, crop procurement, crop insurance and other agriculture-related programmes.
Addressing a programme at Shilpakala Vedika after launching the latest phase of Rythu Bharosa assistance, the Chief Minister said the government had officially begun depositing the financial assistance into farmers’ bank accounts across the state.
Revanth Reddy said the government aimed to strengthen agriculture by ensuring that farmers could cultivate with dignity. He added that despite financial constraints, the administration was implementing promises made to the farming community.
Telangana farmer welfare includes loan waiver and investment support
The Chief Minister said the government had implemented a farm loan waiver of up to ₹2 lakh. According to him, the scheme benefited 25.35 lakh farmers and waived loans worth ₹20,677 crore. He described it as one of the country’s largest farm loan waiver programmes.
He also said the government had increased annual investment assistance under the Rythu Bharosa scheme from ₹10,000 to ₹12,000. According to the Chief Minister, more than ₹27,000 crore had already reached farmers through the scheme. He added that another ₹9,000 crore would be released under the latest phase.
Revanth Reddy said the government had spent around ₹30,000 crore over the past 30 months to provide 24-hour free electricity to the agriculture sector. He added that the government had also allocated substantial funds for paddy procurement, Rythu Bima, bonuses for fine paddy, farm mechanisation, irrigation projects and agricultural infrastructure.
Telangana farmer welfare backed by land reforms
The Chief Minister said the government had introduced the Bhu Bharati system to replace Dharani and provide a permanent solution to land-related issues. He added that the new system would maintain transparent land records and safeguard farmers’ rights.
Revanth Reddy also highlighted measures to strengthen women’s self-help groups, generate employment, recruit youth into government jobs and continue welfare programmes for poor families.
He urged farmers to adopt crop diversification by cultivating crops that required less water and offered higher returns. He assured farmers that the government would continue providing quality seeds, technical guidance, marketing support and other agricultural services.
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said the Congress government was implementing every promise made to farmers despite financial limitations. Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao said the government aimed to make farming more profitable through Rythu Bharosa, farm loan waivers, crop insurance, procurement, crop diversification, oil palm expansion and digital fertiliser distribution.
Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said farmer welfare remained the government’s top priority. He said the administration would continue implementing farm support schemes, free power, paddy procurement and irrigation development while extending bonuses for fine paddy cultivation.
Several ministers, Members of Parliament, MLAs, MLCs, Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju, senior officials, farmer representatives and a large number of farmers attended the programme.
