Harish Rao questions Telangana government’s claims on farm spending

Hyderabad: BRS senior leader and former minister T. Harish Rao questioned the Telangana government’s farm spending claims. He alleged that the figures presented by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Finance Minister Bhatti Vikramarka during the Rythu Bharosa programme were inconsistent.

Harish Rao alleged that the government had failed to implement its six guarantees and several election promises. He claimed the Rythu Bharosa programme was an attempt to divert public attention from those failures.

The former minister questioned the difference between the figures announced by the Chief Minister and the Finance Minister. He said Bhatti Vikramarka claimed the government had spent ₹1.56 lakh crore on farmers. Revanth Reddy, however, put the figure at ₹1.75 lakh crore.

Farm spending claims under BRS scrutiny

Harish Rao said the total budget allocation for the agriculture sector up to March 31, 2027, was about ₹82,000 crore. He questioned how the government could claim to have spent between ₹1.56 lakh crore and ₹1.75 lakh crore by June 2026. According to him, the figures did not match the budget allocations.

He also criticised the government’s farm loan waiver policy. Harish Rao alleged that the Congress had promised to waive loans up to ₹2 lakh during the elections. However, he said the government later limited the benefit to short-term crop loans. He alleged that the change misled farmers.

The BRS leader said farmers expected the government to honour its promises instead of making what he described as false claims. He added that the BRS was ready to debate the government’s record on farmers in the Assembly or any public forum.
