Farm mechanisation can address labour shortage, says Tummala

Hyderabad: Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswar Rao said Farm Mechanisation is essential for improving agricultural productivity and addressing the growing shortage of farm labour.

The Minister made the remarks after visiting the XCA stall at EarthCon Expo-2026 at HITEX, Madhapur, on Friday. During the visit, he inspected loaders and excavators displayed by the company and reviewed their operational features.

Tummala said modern machinery can help farmers complete agricultural activities more efficiently. He noted that labour shortages have become a major challenge in agriculture and stressed that mechanised solutions can reduce dependence on manual labour.

Farm Mechanisation can support farmers

The Minister said equipment such as loaders and excavators could prove highly useful in agricultural operations. According to him, these machines can help farmers save time and improve efficiency in field work.

He appreciated XCA representatives for introducing portable and affordable machinery suitable for farm use. He said such equipment could make modern technology more accessible to farmers across the state. Furthermore, Tummala observed that wider adoption of Farm Mechanisation would help farmers complete critical operations within shorter timeframes.

Farm Mechanisation subsidy proposal discussed

Tummala said the Agriculture Department could consider including the machines under its Farm Mechanisation scheme. If approved, eligible farmers could receive the equipment with a 40 percent subsidy, he said.

The Minister also advised the company to introduce battery-operated versions of the machines. He noted that electric models could offer an environmentally friendly alternative to existing diesel-powered equipment.

He added that technological innovation and mechanisation would play an important role in the future of agriculture and help farmers improve productivity while reducing operational challenges.
