Hyderabad: State Minister Jupally Krishna Rao called on people to turn every household into a home library to promote reading habits and quality education across Telangana.
The Minister attended the inauguration of an additional building at the district library in Wanaparthy on Thursday. Wanaparthy MLA Tudi Megha Reddy, State Sports Authority Chairman Shivasena Reddy, and District Collector Adarsh Surabhi also attended the programme.
The event was organised as part of the Education Week celebrations under the Praja Palana–Pragathi Pranalika 99-day programme.
Addressing the gathering, Jupally Krishna Rao said the Cultural Affairs Department would provide books worth Rs. 10 lakh at every Assembly constituency headquarters.
He also announced Rs. 1 crore for the development of the Wanaparthy library following a request from MLA Megha Reddy.
Home library initiative to promote reading culture
The Minister said literacy levels had improved in recent years. However, he noted that quality education still required improvement.
He said libraries would play a major role in developing skills and improving educational standards among students and youth.
Meanwhile, the Minister said the government would establish book facilities in PPC centres across constituencies with an allocation of Rs. 10 lakh each.
He also announced plans to develop tourism centres in Wanaparthy constituency with Rs. 10 crore.
MLA Megha Reddy said the inauguration of the first-floor library building during Education Week celebrations was a matter of pride for the district.
He said authorities had provided toilets, books, equipment, and digital library facilities in the building. He also urged students and competitive exam aspirants to make use of the facilities.
Meanwhile, Shivasena Reddy said education was the only asset that nobody could steal. He urged people to develop book-reading habits.
District Collector Adarsh Surabhi said officials created infrastructure facilities for the library in a short time through TFID funds.
Several public representatives, officials, councillors, and library authorities attended the programme.
