Indiramma LIG housing scheme to begin in CURE area on July 20

Hyderabad: The Telangana Government will launch the Indiramma LIG housing scheme in the CURE area on July 20. Revenue, Housing and Information Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy said the government plans to construct one lakh low-income group (LIG) houses in phases.

The Minister reviewed the project with Housing Department officials at the Secretariat on Tuesday. Meanwhile, he said the government had already granted administrative approval for the project.

Further, the government will announce detailed guidelines on July 20. These will cover eligibility, applications, the tender process and implementation. Ministers Ponnam Prabhakar, Duddilla Sridhar Babu and Mohammad Azharuddin will also attend the launch.

Indiramma LIG housing to roll out in phases

According to the Minister, the government has committed to constructing one lakh houses during the 2026-27 financial year. The first phase will begin as a pilot project. Each Assembly constituency will get at least 500 houses. Depending on local requirements, the number may go up to 1,000.

However, Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy said the previous government had built double-bedroom houses far from Hyderabad. According to him, many beneficiaries did not occupy those houses because they feared losing their livelihoods and access to employment.

In contrast, he said the present government would build houses close to the beneficiaries’ existing residential areas. The sites would ensure easy access to jobs, schools, hospitals and public transport. He added that beneficiaries would receive ownership rights in the government land, providing long-term financial security to their families.

Further, the Minister said officials had identified government land in Assembly constituencies under the Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Medchal-Malkajgiri municipal corporation limits. The Housing Department has already taken possession of the land.

Finally, he said the government would finalise the number of houses, building height, plot size and designs after consultations with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. The final plan is expected within the next two or three days.
