BRICS Trade Union Forum Summit begins in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The BRICS Trade Union Forum Summit-2026 opened in Hyderabad on Tuesday with participation from 110 delegates representing 14 countries. Union Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and Telangana Labour Minister Dr G. Vivek Venkatswamy inaugurated the three-day summit at the Marriott Hotel.

The summit will continue until July 16. Delegates will discuss labour welfare, social security, skill development, employment security and international cooperation.

Addressing the inaugural session, Dr Vivek Venkatswamy said technological advances, particularly Artificial Intelligence and automation, were transforming the global labour market. He said workers needed stronger social security, continuous skill development and lifelong learning to adapt to these changes.

The Minister said productivity improves when workers have confidence in their jobs and their families’ welfare. He urged countries to strengthen social security systems, protect labour rights and invest in workforce development.

Further, Dr Vivek Venkatswamy said the summit would examine technological transformation, the future of work, labour rights and trade union strengthening. He said delegates would also study successful labour policies and recommend best practices for wider adoption.

Highlighting Telangana’s initiatives, the Minister said the State had established Advanced Technology Centres across Telangana to provide industry-oriented training. He also said the Telangana Overseas Manpower Company was helping young people secure overseas employment in Germany, Japan, European countries and the Middle East.

The summit has drawn delegates from Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Belarus, Malaysia and Nigeria. Organisers have constituted special task forces to prepare recommendations for future cooperation and policy initiatives.

The Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh is hosting the international summit. Trade union leaders, representatives from participating countries and senior Central and State Government officials attended the inaugural session.
