Hyderabad: Congress leaders welcomed the Supreme Court ruling supporting caste census in the national census process and described it as a major step towards social justice.
TPCC chief Mahesh Kumar Goud said the exercise was essential to address social and economic inequalities. He stated that the Congress party had been demanding the survey for a long time.
Mahesh Kumar Goud said Rahul Gandhi highlighted the need for the exercise across the country during the Bharat Jodo Yatra. He added that the process was crucial to ensure social justice for backward communities.
Further, he said backward classes should receive justice based on their population strength and stressed the need for a comprehensive survey.

Mahesh Kumar Goud also said the caste survey conducted in Telangana under Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy succeeded due to coordination between ministers and public representatives.
Government adviser V. Hanumantha Rao also welcomed the Supreme Court ruling. He described the judgment as historic and thanked the judiciary for the decision.
Hanumantha Rao said Justice Surya Kant had delivered justice to 60 crore people through the ruling. He also credited Rahul Gandhi for raising the issue and said the Revanth Reddy government had already conducted a caste survey in Telangana.
Further, he criticised the Narendra Modi government and alleged that it did not want backward classes to progress.
