Congress protests fuel price hike in Warangal West constituency

Hyderabad: Congress leaders staged a protest in Warangal West constituency against the fuel price hike and accused the Central government of burdening the public.

Congress workers organised a rally from the Hanumakonda DCC office to Ashok Junction on Saturday. They carried an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They also raised slogans against the Centre.

Later, the protesters burnt the effigy and expressed opposition to the fuel price hike. Congress leaders said the Centre increased petrol and diesel prices immediately after the elections. They alleged that the move imposed an additional burden on the public.

The leaders also criticised the Centre for increasing fuel prices despite a fall in international crude oil prices. According to them, the decision reflected the government’s failure to control fuel costs.

Fuel price hike draws criticism from Congress

Congress leaders accused the BJP government of helping corporate companies while burdening common people. They said rising fuel prices increased the cost of essential commodities. They also said the situation was making life difficult for middle-class and poor families.

Further, the leaders said farmers, auto drivers and several other sections were struggling because of the increase in fuel prices.

They criticised the BJP government by saying the promise of “Achche Din” had turned into “days of burden” for the public. Congress leaders also said the party would continue fighting on public issues and demand immediate rollback of the fuel price hike.

The leaders warned that the Congress party would continue protests until the Central government reduced fuel prices.

District Library Organisation chairman Aziz Khan attended the protest. Former floor leader Thota Venkateshwarlu and former corporators Jakkula Ravinder Yadav, Pothula Sriman and Madhavi also participated.

District Mahila Congress president Banka Sarala and several other party leaders took part in the protest programme.
