Hyderabad: Advisor to the Telangana Government Mohammed Ali Shabbir welcomed the Telangana Family Register on Monday. He said the new system would reduce documentation burdens on poor and economically weaker families. He said it would also simplify access to government services.
Referring to G.O. Ms. No. 172 issued by the Revenue Department, Shabbir Ali congratulated Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for introducing the reform. He described it as a major administrative initiative. Further, he said the decision reflected the Congress government’s commitment to transparent, accessible and citizen-friendly governance.
Shabbir Ali recalled that he had submitted a representation to the Chief Minister seeking a Permanent Residence Certificate (PRC) on the lines of Karnataka. He said the proposal would help genuine residents facing documentation difficulties. In particular, he referred to issues that arose during the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
Telangana Family Register to simplify verification
However, Shabbir Ali said the Telangana Family Register addressed a broader administrative need. It creates an authenticated digital record of family composition using the Food Security Card database.
He said poor families, senior citizens, widows, daily wage workers and other vulnerable groups often struggle to establish family relationships while seeking government services. As a result, they frequently produce documents issued by different departments. They also make repeated visits to government offices for verification.
“The Telangana Family Register will substantially reduce these hardships by providing a single government-authenticated record of the entire family. This is an important administrative reform that will particularly benefit the poor, who often face the greatest difficulty in preserving old records and obtaining certificates from different authorities,” he said.
Further, Shabbir Ali said the Family Register Certificate would contain digitally verified details of the head of the family, family members, their relationship, age, gender, Aadhaar particulars and address. The details would come from the Food Security Card database. MeeSeva will issue the certificate after the Tahsildar verifies the application and grants digital approval.
Accordingly, he said the system would improve uniformity, transparency and efficiency across government departments. Moreover, it would save citizens both time and money. It would also remove the need to obtain multiple documents to establish family composition.
“Eligible families can now secure a digitally signed Family Register Certificate within the prescribed timeline, making access to government services much simpler,” he said.
Shabbir Ali described the Telangana Family Register as an important milestone in Telangana’s digital governance journey. In addition, he said the verified family database would simplify verification procedures. It would improve coordination among government departments and strengthen public service delivery.
He expressed confidence that the Family Register would support future citizen-centric initiatives. Accordingly, he said it would help the government deliver services more efficiently. Shabbir Ali thanked Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for introducing the reform. He said it would significantly ease the lives of ordinary citizens while strengthening Telangana’s digital governance framework.
